Roger Federer Vs. Raphael Nadal - Wimbledon 2007 Final

It was a wonderful Sunday evening. After a sound lunch and some rest I sat before the television. All the curtains down and doors closed and of course the mobile to silent mode and with array of snacks and juices in reachable distance. It was the Wimbledon 2007 final, the clash of the titans Roger Federer and Raphael Nadal. With lots of expectations for a thrilling final the mood was set. The match started at 06:30 pm IST.

I am not going to give a ball by ball commentary. The match was a great delight. I enjoyed the whole evening. It matched all the expectations. It was a five setter and the duration running up to 3:30 hours approximately. It was one of the best matches of the century. If you love tennis and had missed this match, get a copy of it from library and watch it.

Roger Federer played consistently through the match with high standards. He lost concentration for a small duration in the fourth set and he lost it badly. He showed his master class and his expertise over the grass court. At the end when it came to withstand the pressure, his experience came in handy. His service is huge and the high number of aces made the difference.

Raphael NadalRaphael Nadal with his little experience played good tennis. At occasional points he played brilliantly and at that time there was no match to him. In the fourth set, he completely dominated the match. In the first half of the fifth set he missed couple of break points, which was valuable. It was because of lack of experience. Though his favourite surface is clay he produced exhilarating strokes.

Nadal’s fitness level is high. He is getting better and better by every tournament. If he continues to progress in the same way, he may rule the tennis world in the coming years. He is just 21 years old now and already he has conquered three French open titles.

Roger FedererRoger Federer made history by winning five consecutive Wimbledon titles. Bjorn Borg’s record is equaled. Federer is in his mid of his career; he may continue this and set many records. But he has to tackle Raphael Nadal to do so.

In every field of sport, great rivalries produce good performance. We are lucky that, we have witnessed Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi and now, one more between Nadal and Federer. Hope they continue to play for long and raise the standards of tennis.
